Just a heads up that as of now (November 2025), Curlie is well alive. The community adds about 70 fresh links a day. The editors are quite strict in not letting spam links pass, too.

Personally, I think directories are important from a power point of view: Search engines and AI chats are central services controlled by huge corporations. Directories like Curlie are under the distributed control of the editors, and users can deeply dive into any topic.

Curlie went a step further and is now offering the entire directory data as download at
https://curlie.org/download
That allows small communities to bootstrap their own directories - and then refine them to their wishes.
So, one general directory to help all the small ones :-)

Happy to see that the German-language Wikipedia is still posting several thousand links to Curlie categories.
